Free & Hanseatic City of
Hamburg
Hamburg has a population of over 1.9 million and is one of Germany’s three city states. It is not only Germany’s second largest city, but is also home to one of the world’s largest container ports. Thanks to its favourable location and the entrepreneurial initiative of Hamburg’s merchants and ship owners, the city has always been an important centre for trade and business. The maritime industry still plays a key role today, and the aviation and consumer goods sectors have also become well-established in the city. In addition, there is a significant service sector based on insurance, banking, media and tourism.
The harbour area is home to the historic “Speicherstadt” warehouse district, the modern day Hafencity neighbourhood and the iconic Elbphilharmonie concert hall. The picturesque inner and outer Alster lakes, the lively nighttime hustle and bustle of the St Pauli district and the majestic St Michael’s Church are just a small selection of the unique sights that Hamburg has to offer.

Hamburg City South
The Hamburg City South district is an important business and office location to the south of the central railway station. There are over 800 companies based here, including many from the service, media and technology sectors. The area is known for its contemporary office buildings, but also for its canals and green open spaces which are ideal for breaks and recreation. The appealing City South neighbourhood offers countless restaurants, cafés and shops, a weekly market and a number of hotels.
Thanks to the district’s central location, transport connections are exceptionally good. The central railway station is just a few minutes’ walk away. There are also a multitude of bus, underground and S-Bahn connections.
The Hammerbrook S-Bahn station is directly opposite the Süd Carrée. The two S-Bahn lines S3 and S31 provide access to the entire S-Bahn and elevated railway networks.
